Infidelity
You discover an affair. Or you’re having one.
You wonder whether the relationship can survive and you wonder whether you want it to survive especially after years of investment. Or by having an affair, you recognize that perhaps you’ve wanted to end your marriage for some time and this was one way to do it.
Whether you’re the betrayed or the betrayer, both or you will know that the foundation of the relationship — that the commitment, the trust, is broken. It represents a death of reliable security and care previously agreed upon. This is one of the most emotionally difficult situations to recover from and is loaded with enormous hurt and heartbreak.

What Drives Infidelity
If caregivers in a person’s childhood didn’t provide enough attuned, caring responses, this person will long for it and possibly seek it out outside of their adult relationships. When partners don’t provide enough of what is needed emotionally and physically (Narcissistic Supply) for each other, partners frequently begin to live together like roommates.
What My Work Looks Like
I work with couples navigating all kinds of relationship issues including infidelity. We start by uncovering, discovering what has made for this breach. Once we understand the underlying patterning, and what each person contributed, we can talk honestly about this breach.
Then we need to come to terms with what recovery entails: Complete cessation of the affair. Radical transparency from the betraying partner. Thoroughly understanding what happened so the same conditions don’t resurface. Grief for what was lost. And skilled analytic work to get you through.
Not everyone wants to work through and remain together. And analysis can help with all that is required for dissolution as well.
However, when both partners commit to working this through – the affair event can become a turning point. It does have the potential to offer to a deeper intimacy and a love that’s chosen again with full knowledge.
Sessions are 45 to 60 minutes, most often weekly. Affair recovery typically requires a longer commitment than other work. Available by phone, Zoom, or in-person from anywhere in the US. Everything is completely private. No chart notes, no paper trail. Nothing leaves the room.
